Just after their wedding in Singapore, newly weds Huiling and Kai came with seven of their friends to Jeju for a little vacation. They kindly invited me to their luncheon where I photographed their Jeju wedding reception in style.
We met at Mint, a classy, fine-dining restaurant near the Phoenix Island hotel in Seopjikoji. I had never been there but was impressed with the restaurant’s zen-like interior and its delicious 5 course set menu lunch. Also, the views of the sea and Sunrise Peak were stunning, even though it was cloudy and rainy.
For the luncheon, I played event photographer and tried to capture candid shots of the newly weds, along with their friends who gave some moving speeches filled with anecdotes about the couple. They also designed custom name plates for each of their friends, which we later used in a group shot. I brought some props as well, and after lunch we took some nice group shots inside the restaurant and then moved outside.
Despite strong winds and bursts of rain, the outdoor shoot went really well. Huiling and Kai were really friendly people, and their friends brought a lot of energy and laughter to the shoot, which made my job easier because everyone was always smiling and having fun. What I enjoyed most was how I didn’t really have to focus on the newly weds; rather, they told me to focus only on creative and fun group shots. Huiling had a bunch of fun ideas that she shared with me beforehand, so we got some great, unique group shots that make up an interesting collection of Jeju wedding reception photos.
As you can see in the gallery below, everybody had a great time, and the couple were very happy with the photos. Thanks Huiling, Kai, and friends!
